Siemens Signs Agreement With Ingalls Health System to Manage IT Operations.

by Barbara Kram, Editor | May 30, 2006

Ingalls Health System will implement the Soarian suite enterprisewide, including clinical and financial applications. Soarian is unlike any other HIS in that it facilitates and tracks automated "workflows" designed to help users increase efficiency, improve patient safety, and achieve desired clinical and financial outcomes.

A unique component of the agreement between Ingalls and Siemens is the establishment of a Workflow Innovation Center, which will enable Ingalls to utilize Soarian's workflow engine to define and measure improvements of key performance indicators. This will enable Ingalls to achieve measurable results in improved quality of patient care and safety; operational efficiencies; patient, employee and physician satisfaction; regulatory compliance; and financial performance. The Workflow Innovation Center will be located on-site at Ingalls Memorial Hospital and staffed by employees of both Ingalls and Siemens.

"Implementing the complete Soarian solution, coupled with the Workflow Innovation Center, will enable Ingalls to realize - and measure - improved efficiencies and care coordination across the entire system," Miller said. "Soarian not only coordinates the many simultaneous and complex processes of healthcare, it anticipates them. Through its automated workflow-oriented design, Soarian intuitively delivers information when and where it's needed most."

Soarian integrates clinical, financial and administrative processes to support patient-centered care. The solution is distinguished by three innovative characteristics: it manages processes and best practices across the health enterprise through workflow management tools; it enables increased ease-of-use and faster training via a smart user interface; and it helps to manage and measure the events and activities of the organization through an integrated decision support tool and embedded analytics. Additionally, by seamlessly integrating all clinical, financial and operational data, Soarian helps facilitate more informed decision-making - enabling improved care delivery, reduced medical errors, increased physician and patient satisfaction, and more efficient use of resources.

Siemens also provides Ingalls leading-edge diagnostic imaging technologies at its Family Care Centers in Flossmoor, Tinley Park, and Calumet City, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography/computed tomography. This month, Siemens SOMATOM© Sensation 64 CT system, the world's fastest and most advanced single-source CT system, will be installed at Ingalls.

Ingalls Health System includes Ingalls Memorial, an independent, community hospital with clinical outcomes and nationally recognized patient care programs comparable to major medical centers. Ingalls Health System also includes South Chicagoland's only 24/7 urgent care centers in Flossmoor, Tinley Park and Calumet City; Ingalls Wellness Center in Homewood; and multiple community locations for advanced imaging, diagnostics and rehabilitation.
