Philips iSite PACS
June 5, 2006, Chapel Hill, NC and Andover, Mass. --Philips has generously donated and installed iSite PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) and a three-year service agreement valued at close to $90,000 in the Division of Radiologic Sciences new teaching laboratory in University of North Carolina (UNC)-Chapel Hill School of Medicine's Burnett Womack Building. A ribbon cutting was held June 5 in the Burnett Womack teaching laboratory.

"Philips iSite PACS suite is cutting edge technology that will dramatically improve the quality of instruction for students at the start of 2006-07 academic year," said Professor Joy Renner, Director of the Division of Radiologic Science. "The long-term benefit of this important contribution to our division will be improved patient care throughout North Carolina when our students start their careers as radiologist assistants and radiologic technologists (radiographers) in medical centers and community hospitals."

iSite PACS is an innovative image and information management system that delivers on-demand diagnostic-quality images over existing networks, advanced radiology reading stations for radiologists, and "always online" long-term storage. The technology increases image availability and overall reading efficiency and will allow instructors the opportunity to focus on teaching students the importance ofpatient diagnosis.
