A dirty, neglected heat exchanger.
There are many ways to prolong tube life -- one in particular is the careful maintenance of the heat exchanger (HE) filter. Clogged or dirty HE filters can directly affect tube life. When left clogged, filters will reduce the cooling capacity of the HE, and adversely affect cooling time for the insert, contributing to a shorter tube life.
