CHICAGO...3DISC Imaging, a manufacturer of digital imaging products, has launched a compact, affordable computed radiography system for the dental market designed to provide rapid, high-quality reading of reusable dental imaging plates. With its small footprint, the FireCR Dental Reader fits seamlessly into even the most space-challenged dental offices and exam rooms, improving productivity and optimizing chairside time with patients. The FireCR Dental Reader will be introduced at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) meeting in Chicago Nov. 25-30 (Booth #4406).

Sigrid Smitt-Jeppesen, CEO of 3DISC Americas, said dental practices today are increasingly looking to digital solutions, but the expense and cumbersome imaging plates of direct digital systems limit their appeal. "Computed radiography is the answer for many practices, and we've worked hard to ensure that our new FireCR Dental Reader provides all of the features needed to help dental practices achieve the workflow and patient care benefits of digital imaging while optimizing chairside time with patients."

The FireCR Dental Reader's elegant design combines with a powerful yet easy-to-use system. The reader is DICOM 3.0 compatible with existing systems and uses reusable bite-wing and intraoral imaging plates that are easier and faster to position than intraoral digital sensors. Importantly, a true size 4c imaging plate is available, so technicians don't have to use software stitching to combine images from two size 3 plates-a cumbersome and inefficient process. Unlike some systems, there also is no need to purchase and use protective covers for imaging plates-eliminating extra steps and expense.

The FireCR Dental reader also features a unique color touch-screen LCD panel for seamless device operation. With no physical push buttons on the unit and an intuitive user interface, entering operator instructions has never been easier. The system's automated, magnetized feeding tray offers "push and go" functionality, making it simple to operate for technicians.

Thomas Weldingh, CEO of 3DISC Europe, said that, in addition to its simple "push and go" operation, the FireCR Dental Reader features other automated processes that are key to efficient workflow. "Unique features include integrated UV sterilization and erase functions-the system sterilizes, scans, and clears the imaging plates so that they are immediately ready to use again," Weldingh said.

Weldingh said that 3DISC's QuantorDent Imaging Software optimizes image acquisition, processing, and management. The easy-to-use software supports efficient workflow and requires little training.
