Utrecht, The Netherlands -- MILabs B.V. is pleased to announce that the prestigious National Institute of Radiological Sciences in Japan has installed a MILabs VECTor/CT to enhance their portfolio of nuclear oncology imaging and research capabilities. The VECTor/CT is a unique product offering from MILabs, being the only existing system capable of performing true simultaneous sub-mm SPECT and PET. It delivers unsurpassed resolution, the fastest dynamic scanning (SPECT) and the ability to a forge a trade-off between adaptive PET resolution and sensitivity.
The primary lead for the utilization of this system will be Dr. Masayuki Inubushi, currently a senior researcher at the Molecular Imaging Center in the National Institute of Radiological Sciences in Tokyo, Japan. He is a member of the Diagnostic Imaging Program at NIRS that focuses on the investigation of oncological imaging using functional modalities such as SPECT and PET. Dr. Inubhushi's own research interests also span nuclear cardiology and gene therapy. The VECTor/CT already has proven research applications in all of these fields and Dr. Inubushi intends to operate it in a variety of multi-modal studies to develop a comprehensive understanding of biological phenomena such as metastasis, response of myocardial infarcts to gene therapy and heterogeneity in tumor physiology.
The MILabs VECTor/CT will be housed in the Positron Building which is a Level II clean containment lab facilitating manipulation of immunocompromised animals. The VECTor/CT will be used in hybrid, multi-modal experiments with other imaging modalities such as MRI, bioluminescence and ultrasound.

MILabs is very excited to have the opportunity to work with such a prestigious institution and team of investigators as the National Institute of Radiological Sciences and for the VECTor/CT system to support and play an important role in the development of improved disease models as well as novel cancer therapeutics.
The National Institute of Radiological Sciences is the second institution in Japan to obtain a MILabs system, the first one being the University of Kyoto. This installation indicates the growing demand in Asia for high end molecular imaging systems that can provide unparalleled resolution, speed and sensitivity-features that are integral elements of the MILabs family of systems.
About NIRS
The National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS) is the only institution in Japan dedicated to comprehensive scientific research for radiation and health. Experts of many fields collaborate in research and development to enhance the levels of radiological sciences. NIRS is focusing on two major scientific fields; 1) radiation-related life science research, and 2) radiation safety and emergency medical services for radiation exposure. This plan forms the basis of efforts to contribute to the scientific and technical advancement as well as to the public health. The life science research includes heavy charged particle therapy for cancer treatment, assessment of radiation effects for radiotherapy, and molecular imaging for early diagnosis and treatment planning. In order to achieve these missions, NIRS promotes the scientific research and provides the opportunity of education and training for students, researchers and technical staff. NIRS has conducted various activities as an institution with advanced equipment and personnel with expertise in a wide range of professional fields including medical science, physics, engineering, chemistry and pharmaceutical science. NIRS is a center of excellence open to the public and scientific community.
