Centricity is GE's
EMR solution
Barrington, Ill. -- GE Healthcare, a leading vendor for comprehensive clinical, financial and administrative information technology solutions, has announced that HealthSpring, one of the country's largest managed care organizations primarily focusing on the Medicare-eligible population, has selected GE's Centricity© Practice electronic medical record (EMR) solution for its new health center initiative. This initiative will encourage collaboration among physicians to establish community-based health centers to better serve the unique needs of HealthSpring Medicare members. HealthSpring expects to implement the solution in its first health center this fall.

There are over 4,000 primary care physicians in the HealthSpring network, and those physicians implementing GE's Centricity Practice EMR will also benefit from best practices defined during the implementation of Centricity Practice EMR at HealthSpring's health centers.

"We look forward to utilizing GE's Centricity Practice EMR solution in our planned health centers, which will be designed to provide extraordinary quality of care and service to Medicare Advantage plan members," said Mike O'Neil, HealthSpring's Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. "We also believe our affiliated physicians will quickly recognize how this EMR solution can help improve their ability to provide the best possible care, and we expect their patients to benefit as EMR adoption increases across our five-state service area."

The advanced clinical content embedded in Centricity Practice EMR will help provide HealthSpring's affiliated physicians with nationally accepted, evidence-based alerts at the point of care, which supports patient care decisions and can help them reduce medical errors. HealthSpring also expects to leverage the quality outcomes reports included in Centricity Practice EMR, which will enable the organization to measure physician performance and track compliance with care guidelines.

"GE's advanced technology offers the best potential for addressing the care quality and cost challenges facing healthcare today," said Stephen Gorman, vice president and general manager for GE Healthcare Integrated IT Solutions. "Leaders like HealthSpring are committing the resources to overcome these challenges by leveraging the best software solutions for their affiliated physicians and plan members, and we are proud to be their vendor of choice."
