ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The American Society of Radiologic Technologists has donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund to support recovery efforts following widespread flooding in Colorado.

The ASRT also donated an additional $5,000 to the New Mexico chapter of the Red Cross to assist with relief services the local chapter is providing to communities damaged by flooding in southern and eastern New Mexico.

Based in Albuquerque, the ASRT represents almost 152,000 members nationwide. More than 1,000 ASRT members live in the Colorado counties affected by severe flooding, and more than 100 live in areas of New Mexico damaged by flood waters. ASRT's members are health care professionals who perform medical imaging examinations and provide radiation therapy treatments.

"We want to help our neighbors who are coping with damage from these historic floods, and we believe donating to the Red Cross is the best way to get aid to the most people," said ASRT President Julie Gill, Ph.D., R.T.(R)(QM). "Red Cross volunteers were on the scene immediately, providing food, clothing and shelter to people forced out of their homes. We are proud to support their efforts."

In addition to the immediate donations, ASRT is asking its employees to make individual contributions to the disaster relief effort in Colorado. The ASRT will match collected donations.

Rahim Balsara, regional CEO of the American Red Cross in New Mexico, noted that recovery from flood damage is a slow process. "The Red Cross is making sure that people get the help they need right now, and we'll be on the ground for weeks to come as we help people recover from these devastating floods," he said.
