Companies are already well on their way to provide the software tools necessary to make that a reality.

For example, Carestream’s IHE dose reporting software collects and distributes comprehensive dose information to PACS. It’s up to the PACS to collect information from the various systems and modalities in the facility and then add up the dose exposure to a patient from the various sources.


Ultimately, the goal for health care will be to eventually provide that information to patients so that they can make better-informed decisions regarding their care. So if their doctor prescribes another CT procedure, for instance, the patient may ask some questions if their dose history is tracking high.
