Q&A with Jeffrey Bundy

by Lauren Dubinsky, Senior Reporter | November 06, 2014

DOTmed: Does it have any drawbacks?

JB:One of the technical challenges is battery life and being able to operate in a low power setting. One of the achievements that we're proudest of is the technical solution, which allows the transducer to have a battery life that lasts for multiple procedures without compromising image quality.

Ensure critical devices are ready to go

Keep biomedical devices ready to go, so care teams can be ready to care for patients. GE HealthCare’s ReadySee™ helps overcome frustrations due to lack of network and device visibility, manual troubleshooting, and downtime.

Because the transducer itself is not connected to the system, we've had some questions about what happens when the system and the transducer gets separated. If the transducer gets out of the line of sight or taken too far away from the main unit, an alarm goes off to alert you that it has been disconnected or is not within proximity to the system.

DOTmed: Have physicians expressed a lot of interest in this technology or has it not gained widespread popularity yet?

JB:There is a lot of interest in multiple countries around the world and we're bringing it to more and more countries since we launched it over the last year. Like any new technology, it's still in an early adopter stage but there is a lot of excitement around it.

I hear many times that the advantages of the wireless in the initial demo are very clear to the users. There are multiple different specialties that are using it - anesthesia, MSK, interventional radiology, interventional cardiology. People are starting to publish some of the advantages from a workflow standpoint and how they're employing it in their procedures.

It's getting a lot of interest in the marketplace and has a lot advantages from a workflow standpoint and we're committed to expanding its presence in the marketplace.
