Should the Public Know the Costs of Health Services?

the costs of care
DOTmed received a number of responses from our report, "Bush Mandates Open Healthcare Pricing" and our Letter from the Editor, "Is Transparent Pricing for Healthcare A Good or Bad Thing?"

Here are a few responses to our call for an up or down vote: Do you think the public should know the costs of private health services?

I think Health Care should be competitive. The cost of health care is a problem and particularly because it is very difficult for a private
individual to compare pricing. Sometimes you feel like you are stuck with only one choice. My health care plan, including dental is $1100 per month and then you have to pay co-pays. Some drugs are very expensive because the plan only has reasonable co-pays for generics. With some drugs there are no generics. Bush is on the right track in this area and I hope it spills over into the private sector.

Because some of the costs involved in health care are ludicrous, it would help if we had a print-out of service charges. Who wouldn't question a cost of $50.00 for an aspirin!

I think it will be a good thing. It creates more choice between doctors and hospitals. I do think that patients are consumers and so do a lot of the hospitals that I service. They will do extra things to make the patient more satisfied with their services. They also ask what more they can do because hospitals are in competition with each other already.
