Clinical Laboratory Science Program

The clinical practicum begins early in September and continues through the end of May. The curriculum consists of a 40-hour week, Monday through Friday, generally from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Classroom lectures are scheduled every Friday and the remainder of the time is spent in laboratory rotation. Instruction will include experiences at both hospital sites, enrichment experiences in clinic sites, Community Blood Center and on the night shift.

The Clinical Laboratory Science Program was organized in 1967 and is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Information regarding program accreditation status may be obtained from NAACLS at www.naacls.org.

The goal of the program is to provide quality didactic and practical clinical laboratory experience that not only teaches excellence in performance but also leadership and professionalism. Graduates of the program are eligible for the baccalaureate degree from their affiliated college or university and are also eligible to take a national certification examination in clinical laboratory science.

Tuition and Fees

Undergraduate students from the University of Wisconsin system will pay tuition to the university and the hospital will be reimbursed. Students outside of the University of Wisconsin system will pay an amount equal to the program reimbursement. In the event of a withdrawal from the program, an appropriate pro-rated refund will be made.
