Its really important for us to serve our readers. We want to provide content that they can use in their jobs to enhance their work and promotion abilities, said Editor Julie Kirst. A lot of biomeds feel theyre unappreciated or people dont really understand what they do. And their jobs are critical because theyre fixing medical equipment.

Not surprisingly, 24x7 readers report some of the same professional challenges as DOTmed Users. What I have been hearing lately, which seems to present a problem, is that original equipment manufacturers have their proprietary software, which means the biomed department must call the OEM for service, Kirst said. Another trend of interest to readers is the convergence of IT and biomedical efforts as more equipment becomes digital and wireless and medical records are stored electronically. Biomeds are having to expand their working knowledge [of IT] but these two departments are very different.

Content in 24x7 -- named to reflect the goal of maximizing equipment uptime by being available 24x7 -- includes articles about everything from new equipment to business and management information, such as how to negotiate.
