Professional Growth and Development
Over 15 hours of formal teaching rounds and lectures are held weekly. Easton Hospital's Frank J. D'Agostino, M.D. Medical Library is open for the use of the medical staff, medical students, all Easton Hospital employees, and the public. Housestaff may access the library at all times. The public may use the library Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If possible, call to make sure the librarian will be available to assist you at (610) 250-4130.
Currently, the library collection consists of over 2,500 textbooks, 200 journals, multiple computer programs and databases, and video, audio, and slide collections.
Through Easton Hospital's well-established program of scholarly activities, residents have the opportunity to conduct substantive clinical and scientific research. Professional staff are available on-site to assist you with the development and publication of your studies.
Clinical rotations at the Drexel University School of Medicine (MCP Hahnemann) are included in the curriculum. At each year level, you receive time and funding to attend scientific meetings. Visiting professors will broaden your exposure, and you will have the opportunity to teach junior and senior medical students on core internal medicine and surgical rotations and physician assistants in training.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is designed to provide you with the competencies and skills that a general internist must have to practice successfully in the expanding managed care market. The bio-psycho-social approach to primary health care incorporates competencies beyond those taught in the traditional organ system approach to internal medicine training. These include evaluation and treatment of common problems seen in primary care, including psychiatric problems, family dynamics, women's health, dermatological, and musculoskeletal complaints. Other topics taught outside of monthly rotations include medical ethics, legal medicine, informatics, and evidence based medicine. We offer thirteen 4-week rotations each year.
