Internship
Our Osteopathic Internal Medicine specialty track internship is fully integrated with our Osteopathic and Allopathic Internal Medicine Residencies. We expect that individuals choosing the Internal Medicine Specialty track internship will complete their Internal Medicine training at Easton Hospital as residents in our Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency. In this way eligibility for both American Board of Osteopathic Internal Medicine (AOBIM) and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification can be achieved in three years.

The internship provides broad and intensive training, under the supervision of senior residents in medicine and surgery; and experienced teaching attending physicians. Our program is affiliated with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). This affiliation provides specific support for osteopathic training requirements. PCOM students take core and specialty rotations at Easton Hospital.

Residency
Osteopathic Residency graduates are able to achieve certification by both the AOBIM and ABIM at the completion of three years of training. Because we emphasize both academics and the development of marketable General Internal Medicine skills, our graduates will be superior candidates for primary care careers or the pursuit of subspecialty training.

The Osteopathic Internal Medicine Resident will train side-by-side on an equal basis with their allopathic colleagues while gaining the additional skills unique to osteopathic medicine. The curriculum includes more than 33% outpatient rotations with a clear focus on holistic primary care. Subspecialty rotations in endocrinology, rheumatology and dermatology include substantial outpatient experiences in private physicians' offices. Our program also offers elective rotations at Drexel University (Hahnemann Hospital), our affiliate hospital, and requires completion of a scholarly research project and paper.

The rotation schedule in the PGY 2 and PGY 3 years parallels that for the Allopathic Internal Medicine Residency. The Program Directors of both allopathic and osteopathic programs work in close collaboration as well as with the 8-member core faculty group. We also require completion of a scholarly research project and paper.
