InterMed is a third-party sales and service company with about 75 employees and three offices--two in Florida plus one in North Carolina. “We provide service—everything from time and materials and depot repair all the way to a total asset management where we go into a hospital and run their full clinical engineering department,” said
Danny Hamm, VP of sales for the biomedical and nuclear medicine divisions.
The company is highly diversified in both sales and service. “We are multi-vendor so we’re not married to any one company. We don’t push what we sell. We find out what’s best for the customer and fill those needs by not being pigeon-holed with just one manufacturer,” Hamm said. “We go into a facility and we partner with them to find out what’s best for the facility and we design our programs, tailor them for each individual customer.”

The approach has worked well for the company, in business over 15 years and enjoying organic growth. Customers represent a range of providers from little eye clinics or physicians' offices all the way up to 600-bed hospitals and 1,700-bed hospital systems. In addition to Hamm’s units, InterMed also specializes in ultrasound, X-ray, CT, MRI, and PACS.
The majority of equipment they sell is used or refurbished. “We can also provide new equipment but often money is an issue for the customer so we try to find the best solution and a lot of times that’s refurbished equipment,” Hamm said.
With today’s growing price pressures including impending Medicare cuts in physician and imaging reimbursement, health care providers are looking for efficiencies everywhere they can.
“It’s making it tougher for doctors to remain profitable so they’re pinching pennies more than ever. Even though we have technology increasing at a faster rate with new machines and great gadgets, it’s hard for budgetary reasons,” Hamm observed. “That’s where we come in and offer different solutions …we can save them money on the maintenance and the management of their equipment.”
DOTmed plays an important role in supporting the company’s effort to support its customers. “DOTmed is a great tool for us. We use DOTmed daily to locate [equipment]. We have sources for different types of equipment and parts out there but anytime we have a customer that needs a certain piece of equipment we always check DOTmed as well.”
