CHICAGO ― Eastman Kodak Company’s Health Group has been awarded preferred supplier status by Capio Healthcare UK for a service-based RIS/PACS solution across its network of 30 hospital facilities.
KODAK CARESTREAM Radiology and Enterprise Information Management Solutions (IMS) will support the transition to an all-digital operation for the current diagnostic workload combined with a rapidly scaleable infrastructure to enable future diagnostic expansion. The solution will provide image generation at identified sites, storage and reporting from across the Capio enterprise—including remote reporting—and be fully compliant with the requirements of the NHS Connecting for Health (CfH) initiative to ensure full integration.
Satellite KODAK CARESTREAM PACS will be implemented across the network to manage local modality image capture and to support the diagnostic reporting process performed at each site. A central master PACS will synchronize with each satellite PACS to provide a global view of all images captured throughout the Capio enterprise and manage image routing to the correct locations as required. KODAK CARESTREAM RIS will integrate with PACS across the network to facilitate enterprise-wide referrals, scheduling, worklist generation and diagnostic reporting.

A central data centre will provide the hub for a clinical repository for long-term image storage and to support secure image sharing between the Capio network and external facilities. At the heart of Kodak’s vendor-neutral IMS platform is its revolutionary VIParchive software, which provides the advantages of clinical information lifecycle management (CILM), that automates the management of patient information based upon its true clinical value over time. Unique Storage Plans are set to ensure that images are archived and retained for their set lifecycle based upon the type of image, patient or any other attribute of the examination. This added intelligence allows resources to be fully optimised since access to the data can be tailored to clinical requirements.
Kodak’s UK Professional Services organization will manage the project using extensive experience gained from a number of e-health implementations currently in progress. Kodak is the lead supplier to the National PACS Project in Scotland connecting over 40 NHS Trust currently annually producing 3,100,000 examinations and the e-Health initiative in the RATU area of Finland consisting of five hospital districts and 69 healthcare centres handling over 700,000 annual studies.
