WUXI, China, March 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Varian Medical Systems (NYSE:VAR) today announced the opening of Jiangsu Varian Medical Systems Co., Ltd, its regional service center here that will produce and perform repairs of key imaging components for X-ray equipment in China. This new service center in the Jiangsu Province is expected to shorten the production and repair cycles of imaging components for local X-ray equipment manufacturers and further enhance Chinese enterprises' competitiveness in local and international markets.

Varian's 3,700-square-meter Wuxi Service Center will operate two X-ray tube production lines and one repair and service center for flat panel detectors. It has a current estimated capacity of 2,000 tubes and 800 panels a year.

Tubes and flat panel detectors for X-ray imaging are core components for X-ray diagnostic devices. Only a few manufacturers around the world have the capacity to design and produce flat panel detectors, and detectors often have to be sent to a service center outside China for repair. The newly-built flat panel detector repair center in Varian's Wuxi facility uses the same technologies as the service center in the United States. Additionally, Varian is the only supplier with complete imported flat panel detectors repair capabilities in China.
