Residents 2nd year: $45,570

3rd year: $48,568

Meals Provided while on call through the hospital cafeteria.

Educational Leave

Intern PGY 1 up to three (3) days in-state conference $600.00

Resident PGY 2 up to five (5) days $1,000.00

Resident PGY 3 up to five (5) days $1,000.00 plus $500.00 for board review

Cost of the following courses: ACLS, PALS, ALSO, NALS
Book allowance of $200 per year

Professional Liability Insurance Provided

Health Insurance Various plans are available for resident and family. The intern/resident shares in the premium for health insurance with the hospital paying a significant portion of the premium.

Benefits Other benefits include Dental, Vision Reimbursement, Life Insurance, Disability, Paid Time Off, Employee Assistance Program, Credit Union, Voluntary 403(b) Retirement Plan and other discounts.

Signing/Relocation allowance Incoming residents are granted an allowance of $3,000 to facilitate the transition from student to resident.

Paid Time Off
PGY 1 2 weeks plus 2 sick days
PGY 2 3 weeks plus 2 sick days
PGY 3 4 weeks plus 1 sick day

(Paid time off is administered according to the regulations of the ACGME)

On-Call Schedule Generally, every fourth night for first year residents with sleeping quarters within the hospital. Second and third year residents are required to participate in House Call as a required part of the educational program. House Call is a paid call, which usually averages about three calls per month.

Professional Dues AOA/ACOFP

Chief Resident $1,800 per year

Miscellaneous
Lab Coats & Scrubs: two (2) lab coats for each resident, per year & 3 initial pairs of scrubs

West Virginia Medical License fee

Holidays: Six each year including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas

Moonlighting opportunities are available for residents within the Wheeling Hospital System upon Program Director approval. Interns are prohibited from moonlighting.
