Program Description:
The successful Greensboro AHEC Annual Women's Health Symposium has expanded by collaboration with Northwest AHEC. Together we have put together a strong academic and clinical symposium focusing on heart disease, management of obesity, soft tissue rheumatism, myofascial pain and fibromyalgia, body image, diabetic drug therapies, and infectious disease issues in NC.

This program is designed to provide physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professional’s information on a broad range of topics specifically relevant to women's health. Educational objectives will be met through didactic presentations with ample time for questions and answers, as well as informal exchange. A comprehensive course syllabus is provided to all registrants.

Objectives:
Information and educational materials from this symposium should enable the participant to:
1. Describe risk stratification and current preventive measures relevant to cardiovascular health in women.
2. Explain the obesity epidemic in NC and discuss treatment options.
3. Assess the psychological and social issues that create a healthy lifestyle and workstyle.
4. Describe culturally appropriate health care and its impact on patient-provider interactions.
5. Recognize soft tissue pain, differential diagnoses, and treatment protocols.
6. Discuss how gender affects treatment strategies in diabetes and current recommendations for management.
7. Address the infectious disease status among women in NC.
8. Review the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of hepatitis C.

Target Audience:
This symposium will focus on the needs of the Primary Care Physicians in Family & General Practice, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, GYN, Psychiatrists, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses.

Physician Credit:
The Greensboro Area Health Education Center (GAHEC) designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

Nursing Credit:
Greensboro AHEC will provide 6.0 CNE contact hours (AP004-992) to Registered Nurses attending the entire conference. Greensboro AHEC is an Approved Provider of continuing nursing education by North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
