Nurse Extern Program
Put your education to work in the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare Nurse Extern Program. As a part of our program, you will gain valuable experience to enhance your nursing education. We will provide you with the opportunity to observe and apply the skills necessary to help you fulfill your career goals. To better meet your needs, we also offer flexible scheduling.

Nursing Program
Through a unique partnership with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing, Methodist Healthcare offers expanded educational programs.

To best support their individual career paths, students enter the innovative program at different points in the curriculum. Bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees are available.

Pediatric Nurse Intern Program
Learn pediatric nursing from some of the best at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. The Pediatric Nurse Intern Program helps new graduate nurses apply nursing theory, further develop nursing skills and perform competently in a pediatric setting.

Students become practitioners through clinical experiences with various types of pediatric patients and nursing units, formal education and peer support. Individual career guidance and counseling also are available.

Perioperative Nurse Program
Expand your career options through the Perioperative Fellowship Program, the only program of its kind in Memphis. No other hospital in the city offers a formal perioperative class for nurses to gain valuable surgical skills through hands-on education.

Designed for graduate and registered nurses with no previous surgical work experience, the program trains them to function as novice nurses in the perioperative setting. The program will provide GNs and RNs with the tools needed to work in the operating room as a circulator.

The program is open to all Methodist Healthcare nurses and will equip the nurse with:

*The ability to understand what is happening in the surgery suite
*The knowledge of what specialty equipment is needed to perform a surgical case,
*The basic knowledge of sterile techniques, suture, wound assessment, surgical positioning, surgical prep and draping and
*Minimum competence of the surgical scrub.

For six months, nurses receive full-time didactic and clinical training. Classes start in January and June of each year and class size is limited.
