Washington D.C. -- Paula Broderick, associate administrator and chief nursing executive of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del., is the 2007 chair of the American Hospital Association's (AHA) Section for Maternal and Child Health. As chair, Broderick will lead the section's governing council on public policy issues concerning women and children's health, hospitals serving that patient population and AHA member service strategies.

Broderick has been with the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children since 2004 and has helped guide the hospital towards its mission of excellence in patient care, education, and research by meeting the health care needs of children in Delaware.

Founded in 1940, the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children serves children from across the country and around the world. Nemours, one of the nation's largest group practices for children, owns and operates Alfred I DuPont Hospital as well as four children's specialty centers in Wilmington, Jacksonville, Orlando and Pensacola.
Broderick received a Master's of Science at Simmons College in Boston. Although her career includes extensive nursing leadership and staff nurse experience, her areas of specialization include parent, child and newborn services.

In addition to her service on the AHA's Council on Maternal and Child Health, Broderick's professional memberships include the American Organization of Nurse Executives, Delaware Organization of Nurse Executives, Association of Operating Room Nurses and the Society of Pediatric nurses.

Vicki L Seltzer, M.D., vice president for Women's Health Services at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in Great Neck, N.Y., is chair-elect and will assume the role of chair in 2008. Kathy English, MSN, MBA, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Children's Hospital, Omaha, Neb., is the immediate past chair. Current AHA board member, Raymond Grady who is president of Hospitals & Clinics Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Evanston, Ill., was appointed as the 2007 Board Liaison to the Council.

Also elected to three-year terms on the governing council: Dick Argys, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, R.I.; Jack Ludmir, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia; Karen Bartoletti, executive director of the Sara Lee Center for Women's Health at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.; William Considine, president and chief executive officer at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron in Ohio; Anita Vaughn, chief operating officer/administrator at Baptist Women's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.; Sharon Glanville, chief nurse executive at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, Children's Health Center in Phoenix, Ariz.
