Dr. Kenneth D. Pearsen
new chair of radiology
The State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) is re-establishing its radiology residency program after a decade of being closed. The school voluntarily withdrew the program from the national accreditation process partly because several faculty members left, but new full-time faculty members are now onboard.
In total, 35 practicing radiologists from Great Lakes Medical Imaging (GLMI) will work in the department. GLMI is a diagnostic imaging services provider in Western New York and all of the radiologists are board-certified by the American Board of Radiology.
“Residency education is the primary pathway to securing the future of our specialty,” Dr. Kenneth D. Pearsen, co-founder and former president of GLMI, said in a statement. “The UB residency will ensure that Buffalo has a “steady supply of expertly-trained radiology specialists to service our community for the foreseeable future and beyond.”

The faculty members will provide care through UBMD Radiology and UB’s hospital partners in the Great Lakes Health System, which include Buffalo General Medical Center, Erie County Medical Center and many specialty services under UBMD.
Pearsen has been named the new chair of UB’s department of radiology. The school will start the residency application process this year and it plans to enroll its first class of radiology residents in 2018.
