With a new strategic partnership with Sumitomo (SHI) Cryogenics Group, BC Technical may be able to increase the longevity of their customer's MR coldheads while also reducing the amount of cryogen they use.
Sumitomo Cryogenics Group sells cryogenic and vacuum solutions to the medical, semiconductor, flat panel, general coating and research industries. It's been in business for over 50 years and has offices in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
BC Technical's multi-vendor MR install base has expanded in recent years and, according to the company, that growth — coupled with the goal of providing customers with extended component lifespan and better repair capacity — led to the partnership with Sumitomo.

Through this partnership, BC Technical said that it will be able to provide its customers with the same standard of manufacturing, quality and longevity that they expect from the OEM.
Customers will also be able to purchase new parts that are close to the same cost as a refurbished part. That savings can be credited to the long-term contract with SHI Cryogenics Group, according to a BC Technical spokesperson, which gives them access to those parts at a lower cost.
"They truly think about keeping the overall socket cost to the customers as low as possible while maintaining high quality and system uptime," Jim Beier, VP of Service for Sumitomo Cryogenics, said about BC Technical in a statement.
"Other firms just want to sell you the coldhead service that they can repeat in 14 months." That can actually double a facility's overall cost over the course of 32 months, he added.
