B. Fellowship Research Experiences

The Vanderbilt Department of Anesthesiology offers 1 year advanced clinical fellowship training in cardiothoracic, pediatric, and obstetrical anesthesiology, as well as in pain medicine and critical care medicine.In addition, for candidates who wish to pursue careers in academic medicine, applicants for fellowship are encouraged to consider atwo-year fellowship program that includes a 12 month mentored research experience. This program of clinical training and research may besequential (12 months clinical, followed by 12 months of research), or may be integrated in a manner that combines clinical and research training throughout the two-year period, depending on the particular needs of the fellow, the mentor, and the ACGME requirements forparticular fellowship programs. Candidates for all fellowships must be CA3 residents in goodstanding at accredited anesthesiology programs, and must plan tocomplete anesthesiology residency for board eligibility prior to initiating their fellowship training.
