November 29, 2016 – After a 2M € internal capital round and appointing key experts, Qaelum NV – KULeuven-spinoff focussing on total quality monitoring in medical imaging – opens a new subsidiary in the United States. This milestone comes only months after strenthening Qaelum’s corporate & sales structure to support its fast global expansion. Working from the Qaelum offices in New York city, the sales team will target radiology and other departments in US and Canada hospitals.

Belgian innovator ready for the US market
QAELUM is ready to take the next step. After acquiring market leadership in Belgium, QAELUM has implemented its software solutions in 16 European countries and also in the Middle East. In the process, agreements have been set up with FUJIFILM and AGFA Healthcare to operate as QAELUM distributors with sales teams promoting and selling tqm|DOSE internationally.

After the capital increase last August, QAELUM extended its local presence in key EMEA regions and started expansion overseas. Important in this regard is the appointment of Luc Colle as VP Global Sales. And now QAELUM officially opens a location in New York at the offices of BelCham in Manhattan, New York. Starting at the East-coast of the US was a specific choice for QAELUM, as it holds a high density of larger hospitals and it gives easy access to major Canadian cities for continued prospection in the region. Also interesting: according to Micro Market Monitor, the U.S. radiation dose management market is projected to grow until 2020 with an compound annual growth rate of nearly 50%.

Luc Colle, VP Global Sales QAELUM: “After receiving regulator’s approval for QAELUM software in US and Canada, we envisaged to start the overseas territorial expansion of our sales activities. Similar to EU, the US legislation focusses on patient safety and quality. This means that there is a large and fast growing market for QAELUM. The opening of the New York office marks the first step in our overseas expansion. Our presence there is official now, allowing us to set up reference sites at US hospitals, roll out our primary prospection and attract partners.”

Focus on quality & patient safety
With regulations focussing more on quality and patient safety, together with a growing awareness of medical radiation and associated risks, Qaelum has made it its mission to optimize quality, safety and efficiency in radiology departments (and hospitals in general). QAELUM Total Quality Monitoring (TQM) software solutions enable hospitals to monitor and optimize the radiation dose applied as part of a range of medical applications (incl. mammography), and streamline the operational efficiency of radiology and other departments. Increased safety is advantageous for the patients and the hospitals, but the health system in hospitals also yields financial savings when radiology related services operate more efficiently.
