Description
Purpose
1. Refine skills in microscopic examination.
2. Provide information and hands-on practice in the identification of pollen and mold spores.
3. Provide practical information on planning and implementing a pollen counting station for participants' locales.
4. Provide core knowledge base as preparation to sit in for the national exam as a pollen counter, leading to certification by the National Allergy Bureau (NAB).
Objectives
* Identify and categorize the various classes of airborne allergens to be found in ambient air.
* Recognize diurnal, seasonal, and weather-induced patterns of allergen incidence.
* Practice hands-on application of acquired knowledge within the course, with access to expert staff assistance.
* Meet criteria to qualify for the NAB exam, slide testing process, and recertification.
* Begin a working collection of available pollen and spore slides of relevant airborne allergens.

About Education at Ochsner
Ochsner offers one of the nation's largest independent, accredited graduate medical education programs. offering training to over 300 interns, residents and fellows in Ochsner's 20 independent and jointly accredited programs.
