Pearl Technology announces the introduction of CT HeadFix: an integrated, fast and hygienic positioning solution for the fixation of the head in the CT head holder.

CT scanners have significantly evolved over the past years: Higher slice systems offer enhanced performance, where high quality images are taken within a few seconds. Nonetheless, higher performance CT scanners are also needed for more complex imaging procedures, e.g. perfusion, where it is especially important for patients not to move at all.

In order to get the most out of high-end CT-scanners, an integrated and fast fixation aid for CT head scans is surely an asset. Not an easy undertaking at all to develop an integrated one-size fits all solution for this fast paced, emergency prone environment, with a high number of traumatized and disoriented patients. At the same time retake images need to be avoided because of the potential additional exposure to radiation. Moreover, the prevalence of acute, open wounds requires the utmost in standards of hygiene.

The new CT HeadFix is based on the Pearltec technology, with air and polystyrene pearl chambers. This enables an even and symmetrical pressure distribution and ensures an adaptive and pressure-free immobilization, even with demanding patient groups. Further, it is made out of biocompatible polyurethane foil, which can be cleaned easily without leaving residue, providing reliable protection and thereby increasing the safety and well being of the patient.

First customer reactions are overwhelmingly positive, emphasizing the superior immobilization and excellent hygiene standards: "We have tested the CT HeadFix during perfusion, where the examination lasts 40 seconds and mostly uncooperative patients are examined,” states the Lead CT tech at a University Hospital in Germany. “This worked really well with the CT HeadFix and there wasn‘t even a hint of a wobble.
