Vizient, Inc. urges Congress to protect America’s safety net

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vizient, Inc. stands with hospitals and industry associations expressing disappointment and significant concerns with the legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act, known as the Graham-Cassidy bill. We believe this legislation would severely impact individuals’ ability to maintain their health care coverage.

Similar to previous efforts to repeal the ACA, this legislation would repeal the Medicaid expansion, weaken important consumer safeguards, and impose strict new limits on how much financial assistance states can receive from the federal government to help provide health insurance coverage to the most vulnerable populations. Most concerning, without the Congressional Budget Office estimates, we don’t know the magnitude of the impact these types of cuts will have on individuals. Coupled with the end of the Medicaid expansion and insurance protections, this legislation would not only negatively impact patients, but it will also put an increasing strain on hospitals and providers throughout the country.

It is critical to learn what the impact of this legislation will be on patients and providers, and we are disappointed that Congress is moving forward without an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office.

Vizient continues to strongly urge Congress to work with patients, providers, payors, and other stakeholders to improve the state of insurance access and affordability in America instead of finalizing this legislation.
