The American Society of Radiologic Technologists has donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross to assist with disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands after Hurricane Maria. The donation is on behalf of the ASRT’s 153,000 members.
“Hurricane Maria left a wake of destruction and citizens and families have had their lives torn apart,” said ASRT Chairman of the Board Michael Latimer, M.S.R.S., R.T.(R), FASRT. “As we did with Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, we donated funds to the Red Cross so vital support can reach the islands.”
ASRT has a number of members in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The Society implemented a program to make sure its members in affected areas can maintain their membership, earn continuing education credits and receive their journals and other publications. Details are available on the ASRT website.
“Having three hurricanes land within weeks of each other has presented a myriad of challenges for government agencies, first responders, support agencies and civilians,” said ASRT CEO and Executive Director Sal Martino, Ed.D., R.T.(R), FASRT, FASAE, CAE. “We’re supporting R.T.s in those communities through donations and member support so they can rebuild their lives after this horrible disaster.”
