Carestream launched its DRX-Transportable System/Lite on Tuesday, for health care facilities that want a retrofit solution that makes the transition to DR easier.

“Small- to mid-size facilities are continuing to move to DR technology," Sarah Verna, global marketing manager for X-ray solutions at Carestream, told HCB News. [This solution] offers a rapid, affordable conversion for both room and portable systems and equips imaging facilities to deliver higher-quality images than CR systems can provide.”

It’s equipped with a 3.6-pound, wireless tablet PC with a 12-inch touch screen. The tablet uses a virtual access point within the DRX detector to display diagnostic images as they are acquired, and to provide the user with complete control of the X-ray system.

Carestream offers other retrofit solutions, such as its DRX Retrofit Kits and PRO Retrofit System, but the company is touting the DRX-Transportable System/Lite as its more affordable option.

“Many imaging facilities continue to maintain a few mobile CR systems as a backup to their fleet of portables," said Verna. "The DRX-Transportable System is a cost-effective way to replace these backup systems with technology that delivers rapid access to higher quality images than CR can provide."

This new solution will be on display at the Radiological Society of North America annual meeting in November.
