RadmediX is set to debut the AMX4+, the first portable digital radiography (DR) system with onboard wireless charging technology, at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2017 meeting this month in Chicago.

The X-ray system consists of a detector that can be wirelessly charged between patients while docked in a cassette holder, allowing for exams to take place without worry over loss of power or damage to charging equipment.

“The X-ray technologist doesn't have to worry about battery life in busy clinical environments,” Matthew Chrisovergis, a partner at RadmediX, told HCB News. “Other OEMs offer technology that requires the charging physical connection to be mated when docked, but this has been problematic over the years, with damage to the charging pins getting destroyed and no longer working.”

The 14-inch by 17-inch flat panel DR system is equipped with a digital touchscreen display, an optional heads-up display, and all new parts, such as wheels, electronics and locks. It also utilizes technology identical to the recently released iPhone, TX/RF wireless charging technology, and comes with a two-year warranty.

The receiving chip is already built into the panel. Once the two mate, the panel immediately begins charging.

"I think our solution with wireless charging will be a much sought after feature in digital imaging due to its ability to prevent charging shortfalls, and not to mention, this is already highly demanded given the cell phone technology spending millions in development for their consumer products," Chrisovergis said.

RadimediX recently also began offering its Acuity 10-inch by 12-inch Cesium Iodide and Gadolinium Oxysulfide wireless DR detectors.

AMX4+ is FDA approved and CE marked. The complete digital system, which consists of AMX4+ and the Acuity DR plate is available for sale around the world.
