Fujifilm's FDR Go
mobile DR system

Three U.S. health systems have recently installed Fujifilm DR solutions

by Lauren Dubinsky , Senior Reporter
Three health systems in the U.S. have recently installed Fujifilm DR solutions, and the the Consolidated Appropriations Act seems to be a factor in those decisions.

“Beginning January of this year, the legislation kicked in a seven percent reduction for Medicare reimbursement for providers that continue to utilize CR for their outpatient exams,” Robert Fabrizio, director of strategic marketing, digital radiology and women’s health at Fujifilm, told HCB News. “It has definitely caused providers to begin to focus on budgeting for new general X-ray imaging equipment.”

Hackensack University Medical Center, which is the largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services in New Jersey, purchased the FDR AQRO mini-digital X-ray system and five FDR Go mobile DR systems.

The new FDR AQRO was introduced in January. It’s a redesign of the company’s FDR Go full-size mobile systems with a retractable column and features for convenient bedside imaging.

Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Delaware has plans to install the D-EVO Suite II X-ray suite with flexible DR workflow, optimized for use with the FDR-D-EVO detectors. It is also adding the long-length FDR D-EVO GL detector.

Self Regional Healthcare, which cares for over a quarter of a million residents in the Lakelands region of upstate South Carolina, is planning to implement eight FDR D-EVO II DR detector X-ray room retrofits and four FDR Go mobile systems.

Fabrizio doesn’t believe that Fujifilm’s new DR sales are directly related to the new reimbursement reductions for CR. Most hospitals have been converting from CR to DR before the Consolidated Appropriations Act, but there was a much lower priority in allocating budgets to new general radiography equipment.

“There are still a good number of sites that have not converted yet and have aging digital X-ray equipment in need of replacement,” said Fabrizio. “The Consolidated Appropriations Act has provided an additional push for those who hold the purse strings to take general X-ray upgrades more seriously.”
