El Segundo, Calif. (June 13, 2018) – Radiology Partners (RP), the largest physician-led and physician-owned radiology practice in the U.S., today announced that the radiology department of Duke University School of Medicine (Duke) has joined the Radiology Partners Research Institute (RPRI). RPRI is a research affiliation between Radiology Partners and leading academic medical institutions with a mission to facilitate and support research and programs that advance the specialty of radiology and focus on ways that radiologists can use medical imaging to enhance value for patients, providers, hospitals and payers.

“We are thrilled to be a part of RPRI,” said Dr. Jenny Hoang, a neuroradiologist and director of head and neck imaging in the radiology department at Duke. “Our ongoing work with Radiology Partners and RPRI is already demonstrating the tremendous potential of academic and private practice collaboration to advance our field and the quality of care for patients.”

Dr. Hoang is a leading authority on thyroid imaging, and RPRI and Duke have previously collaborated on research regarding the imaging and management recommendations of thyroid nodules. Their work was recently published in the April 2018 issue of the journal Radiology and the May 2018 issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology.

“It is an honor to be working with Dr. Hoang and her colleagues at Duke,” said Dr. Jay Bronner, chief medical officer of Radiology Partners and director of RPRI. “When we founded RPRI, we envisioned it as a ‘clinical innovation laboratory,’ and this was exactly the type of work and quality of academic partners we were striving to attract.”

“Partnerships with leading academic organizations support our broader mission of transforming radiology,” said Rich Whitney, chairman and CEO of Radiology Partners. “We recognize that by coming together with outstanding institutions such as Duke, we can achieve far more than any of us ever could working in isolation.”
