What to expect at the Medical Myanmar trade show

Medical Myanmar is a relative newcomer to the international medical trade show scene, so a lot of people may not know what the event is all about. HealthCare Business News spoke to Kenny Yong, founder, group CEO and board member of Fireworks Trade Media Group, which puts on the Medical Myanmar show, to learn more.

HCB News: Can you tell us a little bit about the origins of Medical Myanmar and its history?
Kenny Yong: The inaugural meeting of Medical Myanmar took place in 2013 and was initiated by the Myanmar medical professionals who were looking at procuring the latest technology for their hospitals.

HCB News: How did you originally get involved with the event?
KY: We (Fireworks Trade Media Group) were invited by the Myanmar Medical council to launch the event because they were looking for a suitable partner of international caliber and we fit their need.

HCB News: What kind of issues do you expect will dominate conversations at Medical Myanmar?
KY: There would be major coverage of technology related news dominating the event as Myanmar is still looking to further their vision of improving the healthcare industry.

HCB News: Are there certain initiatives or goals you will be announcing at the event?
KY: We would be looking to share the technology of our international exhibitors hailing from UK, US, Germany, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Turkey and China.

HCB News: For first time attendees, what advice would you offer to make sure they make the most of their time?
KY: I would advise them to identify the clients they wish to connect with on day one and approach them on day two, with day three meant for more in-depth discussions. Usually, day one and day two of the event are the busiest.

HCB News: What makes Myanmar a unique prospect in the global medical industry?
KY: Myanmar had just opened for business to the world five years ago and despite business still being sluggish as political reforms are still taking place, it is a good time to enter the market to "park" your brand as the market is expected to be ripe for picking by 2020.

HCB News: For healthcare professionals who aren't sure if they should be attending, what kind of questions should they ask themselves?
KY: Are they interested in whats going on in the industry? Do they want to network with international medical professionals? If the answer is yes to the above this is a must attend event.

HCB News: What will the program at this years event look like? Are there any particular highlights you're looking forward to?
KY: Our event is always pointed to technology. The Myanmar visitors visit the event to network with like-minded industry professionals and also to update themselves on the latest capabilities. We maintain the highlight of every year being our international technology exhibits.
