Wednesday, October 16, 2018 (ESR, Vienna) – Abstract submission for the forthcoming European Congress of Radiology closed on October 15, with a record of 8,469 submitted abstracts. This stunning increase of almost 18% in submitted abstracts, means a plus of more than 1,200 abstracts in comparison to ECR 2018, by far exceeding all expectations.

"I would like to extend a big "Grazie" to all abstract submitters. Active scientific contributions are the cornerstone of every congress and I am almost speechless by this new record in submitted abstracts and the level of commitment shown to us from all over the world", stated ESR President, Prof. Lorenzo Derchi from Genoa, Italy.

Of special note are the increases in submissions of the topics Interventional Radiology (+61% compared to previous year), Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (263 submissions), a new congress topic, Hybrid, Molecular and Translational Imaging (+150%), and Neuro (+12%) which all confirm the ESR's leadership on trending topics in medical imaging.

In addition, the growth of abstracts submitted for the Radiographers' programme (+62%) is a strong sign of the growing community involved in the ECR.

The international community is traditionally the backbone of the ECR's multicultural atmosphere, so it is no surprise that several traditional 'ECR abstract powerhouses', also saw notable increases in submission numbers, proving that the appeal of playing a part in the world's most innovative medical imaging event is as high as ever.

ECR 2019 will be the 25th ECR held in Vienna and the ESR is delighted to celebrate this anniversary with the highest number of abstracts ever received. The congress will take place February 27 – March 03, 2019.
