the Military Health System over the next four years
The Defense Health Information Technology Division of the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) has awarded a $116 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to ECS to oversee the modernization of IT within its U.S. military treatment facilities.

The objective for the Military Health System (MHS) to offer greater efficiency, ease and access to more than 9.4 million active duty personnel, military retirees and military families seeking medical care. The current infrastructure will be replaced over the next four years by a consolidated system called MedCOI (the medical community of interest), with details outlined in the Federal Health Information Technology Infrastructure Service Modernization (FHITISM) contract.

“As ECS continues to innovate within the areas of infrastructure service and health information technology, we look forward to serving NIWC and DHA in this critical modernization endeavor,” said George Wilson, president of ECS, in a statement.

The mixed information technology environment that is MHS was created from the integration of service networks developed for diverse service requirements across the Department of Defense (DoD). The DoD’s Defense Health Agency will play host to a new, integrated IT environment for MHS as it gradually adopts a modern electronic health system called MHS GENESIS.

In addition to setting up the health system’s IT infrastructure, ECS will address complex privacy and cybersecurity concerns by providing Desktop to Datacenter (D2D) IT modernization and cybersecurity solutions to the DHA and other federal health IT customers. Services include technical planning and solution requirements development; system requirements and design; system build and integration; test, produce, and deploy; and life cycle sustainment.

“ECS has been integral in the design, development, and fielding of DHA’s Desktop to Datacenter transformation initiatives,” said Jim Kier, ECS’ senior vice president for cyber solutions and digital modernization. “We are proud to support this next phase of modernization for military healthcare.”

ECS is a division of ASGN that delivers solutions in cloud, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, application and IT modernization, science, and engineering.
