WASHINGTON – The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) today applauded Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) for helping lead an ultimately successful effort to repeal the medical device tax as part of the federal government’s year-end spending deal.
The tax’s repeal was officially codified into law following President Trump’s signature in late December of last year, representing the culmination of years of dedicated advocacy efforts by patients, industry stakeholders and Congressional champions such as Representative Houlahan.
“Strong advocacy from Representative Houlahan and her colleagues in Congress was absolutely critical to getting this stifling and economically harmful policy repealed,” said Dennis Durmis, SVP – Radiology Head of Americas Region, Bayer and Chair of the MITA Board of Directors. “The importance of her leadership mere weeks before the tax was set for re-implementation cannot be overstated. We applaud Representative Houlahan for prioritizing patients and the countless innovators who would have been hurt by this policy.”
