Express Systems & Parts Network has recently set up a new facility not far from its current headquarters in Aurora, Ohio. "We're bringing customers here to a showroom atmosphere to see some of the complete systems we have on the floor," said President Akram Abdelaal. The company specializes in systems and parts for all diagnostic imaging modalities and manufacturers including MR, CT, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and cath lab for GE, CGR, Philips, Picker, Siemens, Acuson, Toshiba, Hitachi and many others.

"We take trade-in equipment if the OEM is putting in new systems and they put the old systems out to bid," Abdelaal said. "We bring in functioning equipment and sell it as a functioning unit or if someone needs a part, we may sell parts." The company's inventory includes many hard-to-find parts. "Right now, 70 percent of our business is selling parts," he said.

In addition to the OEMs, customers include health care providers worldwide. "We also sell to other parts providers if they don't have the parts in their inventory," Abdelaal reported. "Even though we are competitors, we work together to get resources most efficiently to the end user. This is very important to us."

The company also runs an internship program to help biomedical people get familiar with vintage equipment as well as new technology.

With the new facility Abdelaal is welcoming additional staff, including Jay Mathis, technical product manager, who recently joined the organization, but has 35 years in the business with companies like Picker, RSTI and Ditech. Mathis will be working in-house as an engineer offering free technical support and trouble shooting for parts and equipment. As Abdelaal puts it, "We are poised for growth and getting ready to make that next leap in the market."
