Philips has expanded to five additional nuclei with the MR 7700, allowing it to provide more metabolic and functional information for different anatomical parts. The solution has a higher power gradient than the MR 5300 and uses dedicated coils instead of breeze coils but does come with many of the same components, such as the comfort mattress.

The MR 7700 is FDA-pending and will be released in 2022.

MR Workspace and SmartSpeed
In addition to its new scanners, Philips released new software innovations, including MR Workspace, a new user interface that operates as a console room. It is the largest change Philips has made in its user interface history in the last 18 years. With it, images can be sent to PACS or radiologists in 30% less time for faster diagnosis, and protocols are suggested by an AI protocol assistant.

Users can also view and adjust their whole day ahead in their schedules and receive alerts when each patient arrives. “It’s a monumental shift in how Philips MR operates. This MR Workspace is going to be our software going forward on all MR scanners,” Philip Fritz, marketing leader of MR performance in North America at Philips, told HCB News.

MR Workspace is 510(k) pending and expected to become available for sale in Q2 2022.

The company’s other new application is SmartSpeed, a new acceleration software that runs off MR Workspace. SmartSpeed combines AI technology with Philips’ Compressed SENSE, an advanced acceleration application that reduces exam times by up to 50 percent across all anatomies for 2D and 3D. Together, both technologies sharpen images and speed up production to relay information faster to referring physicians for quicker and more accurate diagnoses. Additionally, the software is 97% compatible with each and every scan that a provider can perform.

“With Compressed Sense, we can do 2D, 3D cartesian images. With AI Compressed SENSE, we can do this on CMAC images, radial images like multi-vein,” said Stroud. “We really opened up where we can speed-up.”

SmartSpeed is also FDA-pending and expected to be released around the same time as MR Workspace.
