Tri-City Medical Center has entered a $30 million partnership that will make Medline its exclusive supply distributor.
Tri-City Medical Center, a San Diego County provider serving Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista, has appointed Medline as its exclusive distributor in a $30 million multiyear, prime vendor partnership.

The 386-bed, full-service acute care hospital employs over 500 physicians practicing in 60 specialties, and operates the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in North County, a regional area of San Diego County. It also runs Orthopedics & Spine, a Cardiovascular Health Institute, Tri-City Wellness & Fitness Center in Carlsbad, and specializes in robotic surgery, cancer, women’s health, and emergency care.

Medline will provide an extensive portfolio of essential medical supplies, solutions and services for Tri-City’s staffing and inventory management needs.

“Medline also has expansive clinical programs that align with and will benefit Tri-City as we look to optimize our offerings in those areas further,” said Tom Moore, director of supply chain management for Tri-City Medical Center, in a statement.

Based in Northfield, Illinois, Medline has over 30,000 employees worldwide and provides services to healthcare systems in over 125 countries and territories to help them achieve long-term financial viability and quality care. Among its offerings are automated inventory management solutions, supplies for utilization optimization, and tactics for reducing supply chain spending.

Medline will provide full-time, on-site staff to manage the hospital’s medical supply inventory. The new personnel will work as an extension of the Tri-City Medical Center team.

They also will work with clinical and operations teams, as well as Medline’s distribution center in Temecula, California, to optimize the medical center’s inventory operations, so that clinicians and staff can focus on achieving the highest quality of care.

Among the services it will offer to Tri-City is monitoring of item utilization, contract compliance, price accuracy, and spending, depending on product categories. It will facilitate this through its advanced analytics platforms.

Additionally, Medline will deploy its Home Health Solutions; Urological Solutions for CAUTI (catheter-associated urinary tract infections) prevention to reduce the use and duration of indwelling urinary catheters (IUC); and ReNewal medical device reprocessing program for reducing waste and reusing single-use devices safely at Tri-City.

“This partnership is unique because we will be integrating members of our organization on-site within Tri-City Medical Center, and collaborating on a larger scale,” said Rob Zabel, division sales director for Medline.
