Modular Devices has acquired Interim Diagnostic Imaging, adding CT, PET and MR solutions to its portfolio of mobile imaging solutions.

Based in Indianapolis, Modular Devices already provides interim mobile and modular cardiac cath and interventional labs for angiography, interventional and electrophysiology services. Providers rent these units to continue services during imaging lab renovation projects and to expand service lines when no space is available.

The integration of IDI, headquartered in Minnesota, gives Modular Devices one of the largest mobile medical imaging fleets in the industry.

IDI’s mobile MR systems house Philips, Siemens Healthineers and GE HealthCare scanners. Its mobile CT solutions include scanners from all three companies, plus Canon. These and its PET scanners can be rented out anywhere from two weeks or longer.

The deal is Modular Device’s second acquisition over the last year. It acquired Cardiac Services Mobile in May 2022, adding nearly 33% capacity to its cath lab infrastructure and making it the largest mobile company to offer temporary, interim cardiac catheterization, peripheral vascular, electrophysiology, and CT labs.

Modular Devices’ mobile labs are used as short-term solutions for two to five months, while its larger modular labs are for more long-term projects of six to 12 months or more. It also operates mobile cleanrooms, controlled environments that filter out dust, airborne microbes and aerosol particles to create sterile environments for pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and cellular and gene therapy.
