Affidea has acquired the Instituto Radiologico Gandini in Italy.
Affidea, the largest provider of diagnostic imaging in Europe for out-of-hospital and cancer services, has acquired Instituo Radiologico Gandini, an Italian medical center in Biella that specializes in diagnostic imaging and women's health.
Instituo Radiologico Gandini, which was started over 30 years ago in the Piedmont region, offers MR, mammography, bone densitometry, doppler ultrasound, and comprehensive breast checkups and screenings.
The deal, which is the fourth one this year for Affidea, integrates its care model in the Piedmont region, especially in Biella, and expands its reach in Italy to 59 centers, which are run by over 2,500 professionals that care for 2.3 million patients annually, performing over 1.1 million diagnostic imaging examinations, 880,000 specialist visits, and 6.1 million laboratory examinations in that time.

"The centre is equipped with a wide range of state-of-the-art technology in breast imaging, from digital mammography with tomosynthesis, ultrasound scans, breast elastography and colour Doppler ultrasound," Fabio Silo, CEO for Affidea Italy, told HCB News.
To date, Affidea has expanded in four countries this year, with Italy being the latest, adding new capacity, more professionals and new multispecialty services to create integrated care opportunities.
According to the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM), an estimated 55,200 new breast cancer cases were diagnosed in Italy in 2020, accounting for 30% of all new cancer cases in women. Additionally, 23% of the population was aged 65 years or over in 2021, according to Eurostat, creating signficant demand for medical services in a highly fragmented healthcare system where many small and medium-sized providers offer a wide range of services across different regions, leading to gaps and inefficiencies from a lack of coordinated care.
"Affidea's integrated model of care with advanced diagnostics (labs and imaging), multi-specialty consultations in an outstanding out-of-hospital environment, minor treatments and cancer care services, combined with its clinical and operational expertise, can help bridge these gaps and provide more seamless and integrated care for patients," said Silo.
Affidea, which is based in the Netherlands and has added about 70 centers in the last two years for a total of 330 in 15 countries catering to nearly 12 million patients annually, made the deal through private negotiations with Instituo Radiologico Gandini, which will be rebranded under the Affidea name.
In March, Affidea acquired Schoen Clinic London to create the U.K.’s leading Centre of Excellence in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in central London. In February, it acquired seven medical imaging clinics in Romania,
according to Romania Insider.
It also acquired Plastic Surgery Group (PSG) in Switzerland in January,
