The New Jersey Superior Court in Cape May County has approved Cape Regional Health System's merger with Cooper University Health Care, a deal meant to enhance healthcare access and resources in Cape May and Atlantic counties.
The merger, first announced in December 2022, progressed through a Definitive Agreement in April 2023 and has since navigated regulatory approvals. Joanne Carrocino, president and CEO of Cape Regional Health System, expressed enthusiasm for the final approval, noting the long-standing relationship between the two health systems.
The newly formed health system will comprise:
- Two hospitals with more than 900 licensed beds.
- Revenue exceeding $2.2 billion annually.
Nearly 11,000 combined team members. - Over 1,000 employed physicians across three physician groups.
More than 550 advanced practice providers. - 130+ ambulatory locations across eight counties.
- Six urgent care centers.
Cooper University Health Care, based in Camden, New Jersey, is recognized for its MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and serves as the region’s leading academic health system and Level I trauma center. The health system serves over two million patients annually.
Cape Regional Health System, which serves Cape May County, is accredited by The Joint Commission and has received its Gold Seal of Approval. It includes Cape Regional Medical Center, multiple urgent care facilities, and a network of primary care providers and specialists.
