Probo Medical, a global provider of imaging equipment and service based in Tampa, Florida, is making changes to its leadership team.

Michael Asmer, the company’s former chief executive officer, has been appointed chairman of the board, while Greg Kopulos steps into the role of CEO.

Asmer has been with Probo since its acquisition of MedCorp, a company he founded, in 2018. He previously held leadership roles at Physician Sales and Service (PSS) and Henry Schein, both prior to their acquisitions.

Reflecting on his tenure as CEO, Asmer said, "I am tremendously proud of what our team has accomplished over the last five years... Probo enters a new phase of growth where we can support our customers with a comprehensive offering of diagnostic imaging solutions."

Kopulos, who joined Probo as chief operating officer in May, previously served as president of the Clinical Quality Solutions business at Chartis. Prior to that, he spent 20 years with GE Healthcare, holding several executive roles, including chief operating officer of Global Service.

New-York-based Avista Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused exclusively on healthcare, with over $8 billion invested in more than 45 growth-oriented healthcare businesses worldwide, acquired a majority stake in Probo Medical from Varsity Healthcare Partners in 2022. No financial details or deal terms were disclosed, but sources say the price may have been in the $450 million range.

Since then, Probo Medical has acquired a string of parts and service providers, including Ultra Select, National Ultrasound, and Alpha Source.

Earlier this year, the company reached a settlement agreement with Philips North America to resolve a legal dispute concerning the manipulation of proprietary software in Philips ultrasound machines.
