Intermountain Health Holy Rosary Hospital has opened a new cancer center in Miles City, Montana.

The 12,000-square-foot facility expands access to radiation oncology services, complementing the hospital’s existing medical and surgical oncology offerings. The new center is the only comprehensive cancer care facility within a 125-mile radius.

Ben Uhlich, president and chief nursing officer of Holy Rosary Hospital, emphasized the significance of this development, noting that the hospital already provides over 1,500 infusion treatments and 500 oncology visits annually. “With the opening of this new cancer center and now offering radiation oncology services at Holy Rosary, we will be able to serve even more patients, creating equitable cancer care for the region and our rural communities,” he said.
The project also features the area’s only medical linear accelerator for precise radiation treatments, as well as patient-centered design elements such as large windows in infusion areas and outdoor courtyards. The center adds additional capacity for infusion treatments and includes four dedicated exam rooms.

Walter Panzirer, a trustee for the Helmsley Charitable Trust, described the opening as a "transformative milestone" for patients in eastern Montana. “Helmsley is committed to improving access to health care services in rural America," he said.

Construction began in spring 2023, and the $17 million project was completed in September, funded by Helmsley, community donations, and capital investments from Intermountain Health and Holy Rosary. The center is connected to the hospital, further integrating it into Holy Rosary's comprehensive care network.
