Medical imaging IT company Sectra is partnering with Siemens Healthineers to integrate photon-counting CT (PCCT) images into Sectra’s diagnostic application, eliminating the need for radiologists to switch between different workstations.

The collaboration aims to enhance workflow efficiency and improve diagnostic capabilities by enabling seamless access to Siemens Healthineers’ NAEOTOM Alpha PCCT images within Sectra’s PACS.

The NAEOTOM Alpha class PCCT scanners generate high-resolution, contrast-rich images at a lower radiation dose, which is particularly beneficial for detailed imaging of the brain and heart, as well as for pediatric oncology cases where repeated scans are required. Until now, the full spectral data from these scans could only be processed within Siemens Healthineers' proprietary reading and reporting solution. This new integration will allow radiologists using Sectra’s PACS to access Siemens Healthineers’ spectral post-processing tools directly within their existing workflow.

“Radiologists need access to all relevant images and tools in one application to work efficiently and make informed decisions,” said Torbjörn Kronander, president and CEO of Sectra. “Despite sometimes competing, both Sectra and Siemens Healthineers believe that the end-user workflow is what drives us the most. This cooperation is valuable for radiologists as well as patients.”

By embedding Siemens Healthineers’ spectral imaging capabilities into Sectra’s platform, radiologists will have interactive and customizable visualization options for tissue spectral characteristics, potentially leading to faster and more accurate diagnoses.

“After three years of transforming medical imaging with photon-counting CT, we are now taking the next step in enhancing diagnostic capabilities,” said Nena Stephan, project lead for clinical insights & automation at Siemens Healthineers. “The partnership with Sectra will ensure that advanced interactive spectral capability can be seamlessly accessible within radiologists’ existing workflows on Sectra PACS, without adding data management complexities.”

Sectra’s diagnostic application is part of its broader enterprise imaging software subscription, designed to unify imaging strategies while reducing operational costs.
