GE HealthCare has introduced SIGNA Sprint, a wide bore 1.5T MR system designed to deliver gradient performance typically associated with 3.0T machines.

Unveiled at the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) 2025 meeting, the scanner is currently FDA 510(k) pending and targets clinical applications in cardiology and oncology.

The Chicago-based company said SIGNA Sprint features gradient performance of 65 mT/m amplitude and 200 T/m/s slew rate per axis. This is intended to enable high-resolution imaging of small anatomical structures and support rapid acquisition protocols in complex cases, including diffusion-weighted imaging for oncology and accelerated cardiac exams.

GE HealthCare emphasized the system’s use of deep-learning tools like AIR Recon DL, Sonic DL and AIR x, which aim to streamline scan interpretation and improve consistency in diagnostic quality. The platform also supports quantitative MR techniques, allowing clinicians to go beyond anatomical visualization to assess tissue characteristics relevant to disease progression and treatment response.

“SIGNA Sprint is designed to expand the boundaries of what’s possible at 1.5T,” said Kelly Londy, CEO of GE HealthCare’s MR division. “We are working to enhance diagnostic capabilities to provide highly accurate imaging with peace of mind for patients.”

The scanner includes features meant to improve patient comfort, such as a 70-centimeter bore, free-breathing protocols, and flexible AIR Coils. GE HealthCare described the device as part of a broader effort to support precision care throughout the patient journey.

Also highlighted at ISMRM were GE HealthCare’s SIGNA MAGNUS, a head-only MR system, and the Sonic DL 3D platform for accelerating scan times across clinical applications. The company additionally previewed its Freelium technology, a sealed magnet platform under development aimed at reducing helium usage.
