AdventHealth Orlando will undergo a major expansion as part of a $1 billion investment aimed at scaling health care services and training infrastructure to meet Central Florida’s growing population demands, marking the largest single health care investment in the region’s history, according to the health system.

At the center of the plan is the construction of a 14-story tower that will house 24 operating rooms, imaging and endoscopy services, and 440 inpatient beds. The facility is expected to open in 2030.

The Orlando-based hospital is also expanding specialty services and investing in physician training, workforce development, and technology platforms. These include a robot-assisted kidney transplant program at the campus’s Transplant Institute and the Genomics Risk Assessment for Cancer and Early Detection (GRACE) program, which combines artificial intelligence, patient history, and genetic data to assess cancer risk. A neonatal intensive care unit, known as the Little Miracles Unit, will support premature infants as early as 22 weeks gestation.

AdventHealth Orlando currently hosts 24 accredited residency and fellowship programs with 358 participants. With this investment, the system plans to grow to 33 programs and nearly 470 trainee positions by 2029. Training efforts will be supported by ongoing upgrades at AdventHealth University, including a new simulation center. Student enrollment is projected to rise from 2,000 this year to 3,000 by 2030.

“This project is paving the way for our Orlando campus to become America’s epicenter for surgical advancement, breakthrough treatments, pioneering research and medical education,” said CEO Rob Deininger.

Founded in 1908, AdventHealth Orlando is now a 172-acre campus with nearly 10,000 staff. It serves as the flagship facility for AdventHealth’s national network of 55 hospitals and over 2,000 care sites.

Brasfield & Gorrie is serving as general contractor, with architectural work led by HuntonBrady. Further development updates are expected as the multiphase project progresses.
