GE HealthCare has partnered with Forsta, a subsidiary of Kalbe, to open Indonesia’s first facility dedicated to the domestic production of CT scanners.

The site, located at PT Forsta Kalmedic Global in Bogor, marks a shift toward localized manufacturing of advanced diagnostic technology.

The partnership aims to shorten delivery times, reduce reliance on imported imaging systems, and expand access to diagnostics across Indonesia’s archipelago. The facility is expected to support the government’s push for greater healthcare self-sufficiency and aligns with its priority to localize production of key medical devices, including CT scanners.

At the launch event, attended by government officials and company executives, Elie Chaillot, president and CEO of GE HealthCare International, said, “This facility will help us respond faster to local needs while maintaining the highest international standards of quality and safety.”

With a population of over 280 million and significant geographic barriers to care, Indonesia faces long-standing challenges in distributing medical technology. Local CT scanner production is seen as a step toward closing that gap.

“The strategic partnership between Kalbe and GE HealthCare to supply CT scan machines locally exemplifies Kalbe’s commitment to government efforts focused on supporting national health resilience and local health industry self-sufficiency,” said Irawati Setiady, president director of Kalbe. “We hope that by producing the CT Scan machines domestically [we] will also enhance healthcare services and improve the quality of life for the Indonesian population.”

The plant is also expected to generate skilled jobs and contribute to the development of Indonesia’s health technology workforce, supporting long-term goals for innovation and manufacturing capability.
