Officials gathered last week to mark the start of construction on the Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital, a new facility from Vandalia Health that will expand healthcare access in Bridgeport and surrounding areas of Harrison County, West Virginia.

The two-story, 40,000-square-foot hospital is expected to open in 2026 at Charles Pointe Crossing. According to Vandalia Health, the hospital will offer 24/7 emergency care, inpatient beds, diagnostic imaging, and future clinical space, all within a smaller footprint aimed at serving local residents more directly. The estimated cost of the project is close to $30 million.

The model follows the Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital in White Hall, another Vandalia Health facility that opened previously using the same small-format approach.

“We know from experience that neighborhood hospitals can make a big impact—offering fast, expert care in a setting that feels more personal and accessible,” said Christopher Edwards, DO, emergency services director of Mon Health System and chief administrative officer for both Mon Marion and Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospitals.

Plans for the hospital include eight emergency treatment rooms, 10 private inpatient beds, and on-site lab, pharmacy, and advanced imaging services such as CT, MR, X-ray, ultrasound, and echocardiography. The second floor will be left as shell space for future development.

The project is a joint effort between Vandalia Health, the City of Bridgeport, the Harrison County Commission, Genesis Partners, and Tax Increment Financing district stakeholders.

“This hospital represents more than bricks and mortar — it represents a commitment we made to this community and a promise we’re now fulfilling,” said David Goldberg, president and CEO of Mon Health System and Davis Health System–Vandalia Health–Northern Region.

Construction is being overseen, in part, by Genesis Partners, the developer behind the broader Charles Pointe community.

“We are proud to partner with Vandalia Health on a hospital that will elevate the quality of life for our residents and the region at large,” said Genesis Partners president and CEO James Corton.
